Organization

St. Marys is unique for a city its size in that all aspects of providing both water and wastewater services to citizens is organized under one department.  This allows us to keep the costs of providing both services lower, since we share administrative duties and employee tasks as well as skills across more than one service.  There are three main divisions within the department:

WATER DEPT.

The primary duty of this division is providing safe and reliable drinking water to the citizens of St. Marys.

WASTEWATER DEPT.

The primary duty of this division is the treatment of wastewater to acceptable levels before discharge to the St. Marys River.

FAMILY AQUATIC CENTER

This division is responsible for the seasonal operation of the family aquatic center.

The Superintendent of Water and Wastewater is responsible for all operations of the department.  Within the department, the Superintendent of Water and Wastewater Treatment is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the two treatment plants, foreman are in daily charge of both Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection, and the Aquatic Center is managed by part-time seasonal employees.
