Our Mission
To provide safe, reliable, and cost effective water and
wastewater services to the citizens and business of St. Marys.
Introduction
People depend on clean water everyday. We use it
for drinking, bathing, recreation, farming, and cooking; we use it to
generate power and in industry, to carry waste, and just for the pleasure
of watching it. But we also change it when we use it, adding food
scraps, human and solid wastes, chemicals, and other pollutants. In
St. Marys, the Water and Wastewater Department is responsible for
protecting our water. Our duty to protect the health of the public,
by making drinking water safe for everyone to use, began in the 1890's,
when citizens built the City's first water supply facility. Our duty
to clean used water, to safeguard the environment and the health of those
who use it after we do, began in 1908, when citizens built one of the
first complete wastewater facilities in the State of Ohio. Today our
water and wastewater facilities serve over 10,000 people, providing for
the comfortable life style, industrial growth, economic security, and
public health that people have come to expect.
Maintaining water quality is not as visible as patrolling
the streets or putting out fires. But when it comes to health and
safety, maintaining water quality is critical. Can we do it
alone? No, we need your help. We need you to conserve water,
to use it wisely and not waste it. We need you to protect our water
resources, by not contaminating it with chemicals and other
pollutants. It's really very simple. We need clean water and
we all need to support its protection. It's up to you to help care
for the water that we depend upon for everything we do.

The City of St. Marys encourages all citizens to learn
more about water resources, water conservation, and protecting the
environment. We offer presentations and treatment plant tours
free-of-charge to civic groups, school children, and other interested
